Every year a number of selected students are chosen to spend 1-2 weeks in a rural setting of Zambia. Here they experience life outside of the city, often in rural communities with very little connection to the outside world. Whilst on rural placement students will be self sufficient and often take part and help in teaching lessons at schools, coaching sport sessions and cooking meals for host families. We offer two rural placements in Chongwe and Liteta, ask your university about more opportunities to experience rural Zambia.
Liteta is a small roadside village, loacated 2-3 hours north of Lusaka by bus. It is associated with Sport in Action and operates a small office to cater to the local community sport projects.
Students stay with a host family who have been taking volunteers for over 10 years. The main community school offers football and netball leagues, as well as girl in action education lessons.
The host house offers limited electricity but does have a big freezer to keep food cold and fresh. After placement you can gaze up at stars and watch the milky way go past.
